When Elizabeth created this baby sweater she called it The Surprise Jacket because, in her own words, "it looks like nothing on earth when you have finished knitting it. Sew up two seams, and you find you have the nicest little garter-stitch baby-sweater or adult mind boggler." Icelandic Sweater

In this workshop Lynn Wilson will introduce students to two-handed, two-color knitting in the round, using both circular and double-pointed needles. “American” or “English” style knitters will learn to work “Continental” style, and “Continental” style knitters will learn to work “American” or “English” style. Students will then be able to carry one color in each hand as they knit this nearly seamless sweater.  Skills taught include the two knitting methods, 2-handed-2-color knitting, and Kitchener Stitch (for underarm seams).  click here for photo

Yet more advanced sock techniques for happy sock knitters! An in-depth look at Tubular sock edges (both cast on and bound off) for single and double ribs and two methods for working them easily. For decorative effects we have Striped Quilting heel flap stitch, Twined Crochet Bind-Off and Flying Swallows stitch pattern. Facings for top-down and toe-up situations. Intarsia Explored with Lucy Neatby

An exploration of intarsia. We’ll explore pre-knitting planning and preparation; the key to serene working. Pattern analysis, identifying easy or challenging intarsia, and design considerations. Use and simplification of charts. Preparing a symbol, shade and information card. Hints for yarn management. Tackling tangles, the use of measured lengths of yarn and bobbins versus yarn butterflies. Darning in, tricks and tips including a balanced approach to knitting-in ends. Handling awkward shapes and beginning with a single stitch. The causes of ragged and unhappy stitches. Handling horizontal colour jumps without needing to plan ahead . Adding that little extra to your intarsia; blending yarn textures and colours, fancy stitch patterns, stranded knitting, cables, stripes and use of variegated yarns.
