Elizabeth Zimmermann's Tomten Jacket Elizabeth Zimmermann is credited with revolutionizing modern knitting through her inventive and common sense approach. She was a visionary who saw knitting for its simplicity, not for its complexity or intricacy. “EZ”, as she is commonly known, gave knitters the confidence to “break the rules” and taught them to not only enjoy the end result, but to relish the entire process. In this workshop Lynn Wilson will introduce students to Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Tomten Jacket, which EZ whimsically named after a small Swedish elf. Knit entirely in Garter Stitch, this modular design is so versatile. The entire pattern is based on percentages and uses simple math that allows for a truly customized fit. Students will be encouraged to design and create their own unique Tomten Jacket, the variations are numerous - hooded or collared, buttons or zipper, striped or solid, long or short. Knit a beautiful cotton hooded baby sweater or a warm winter jacket for your favorite guy. It can fit a wide range of sizes from Baby to Adult and knits up nicely in a variety of yarns and yarn weights. Along the way, students will get lots of knitting tips, tricks & techniques including how to attach a zipper, how to space button holes, grafting, gauge & gauge swatches. |
